Drum Side
A wooden drum with rope nailed into the sides in order to hold it together. Even though this drum comes from British military history, it represents a lot of different countries and times. As European countries invaded native lands, items like this drum helped people from different cultures learn about each other and adapt. Native peoples mixed traditional and colonial influences into their own identities through trade and partnership. They did this by adopting parts of European military dress and using them in their own ceremonies. The fact that the drum was used in both British military bands and native war ceremonies shows how complicated colonial interactions were.
