View Two: Colors

Historically, Native Americans used colors extracted from natural sources such as plants. Later artworks from Native Americans could be painted using traded dyes from traders  because those dyes are more vibrant (Hanson, 2021). In the painting, various colors were used including red, yellow, blue, brown, green, and black. Although it is not sure if the colors of this painting are from natural sources, the colors are still in fair condition. It is noticeable that the horses in the picture are painted in different colors, which could imply the potential use of the color meanings as part of the story. The Blackfoot warriors are shown wearing a signature headdress and yellow-colored clothes with black-colored legs while the enemies are shown in red color.
