Frederick was the artist of this painting, among many other native paintings from the American Southwest. Her main two subject groups were the Navajo and the Hopi. The description of the painting on the website also tells us that Frederick used both oil and watercolor as a medium he painted his native subjects. In this specific painting, he used oil. The description of the painting also doesn’t provide us with a specific date, but rather a range from 1910-1920. It is also noted that Frederick was a Hopi student. When I searched for the name, I could not find anything else about him, which would track from our lack of records on native people, especially in the southwest.
