View Two: Leather Fringes
This particular gun case has leather fringes. These fringes run along the bottom of the gun case from end to end. Fringes like this were usually created just as a design component through time and when whatever object they’re attached to is in motion the fringes move and flow. Seeing that this gun case doesn’t have a strap to wear over one's shoulder it's a question if this gun case was designed to be attached to a Cree’s horse saddle at either front side of the saddle just below the horn and usually hooked to the front D rings, this however is unconfirmed. The Cree people mostly hunted buffalo which were common to the plains and they used all of the buffalo’s parts. This gun case and its fringed leather are most likely made from large animals such as buffalo or possibly a moose.
